Hi, my name is Sean Burrows and i'm a 3D Technical Artist from Liverpool. I have experience in all aspects of 3D modelling and games engines . In 2014 I graduated from the University of Bolton with First Class Honours in BA Games Art.
In 2009 I decided that I wanted to pursue a job in the games industry, as it was something I had always dreamt of doing when I was younger. Originally I always enjoyed anything technical although I never really knew what route I wanted to take, either as an artist or a programmer. During my time at Liverpool Community College I found 3D modelling was something I really enjoyed, so I decided to go down the artistic route.
2nd year of university I took part at Dare to be Digital in a team called Jimmy and the Scousers. We made a game prototype in Unity called Fix for the PC. At the end of the competition we had over 10,000 people come to Dare Protoplay to play our game, which was an amazing experience.
During university I found that I took more of a technical approach to my artwork. I always wanted to know how everything worked and the functionality behind it. I experimented a lot with shaders and complex materials instead of following the rest of the class who preferred to do a lot of traditional art. This way of working I believe has only benefited my learning and has inspired me to look into becoming more of a Technical Artist.
After I finished university I took a job at Sofology as a 3D Artist, and this is where I currently work. My day to day job has changed over the 2-3 years I have worked at Sofology. I first started off Zbrush sculpting and cleaning up 3D data produced by 3D scanners/photogrammetry software. The pipeline included using a lot of 3DS Max and 3D Coat for retopologising. I then moved into a more of a "Technical Artist" role where I could enhance my skills and pick up Maxscript and some .NET controls/forms within Maxscript. With these skills I could produce tools and also help increase the teams output by 10 times the amount. This ensured that we could hit the companies expectations and strict deadlines.
